Oklahoma ex-senator pleads guilty to embezzling campaign funds [View all]

Former state Sen. Kyle Loveless has apologized for embezzling his own campaign funds for years.

"I accept responsibility for my actions, and I am sorry for the difficulties that I have created," Loveless, 43, stated Thursday in a written admission in his criminal case.

The Oklahoma City Republican pleaded guilty Thursday to three felony counts — embezzlement, filing false campaign reports and perjury.

He will be on probation for three years.

An investigation found he had embezzled more than $100,000 from donations made to his 2012 and 2016 campaigns. He admitted Thursday that he had spent campaign funds improperly and illegally since May 2012 "including for personal use."
