Prosecutors Subpoena Port Authority for Records on Chairman [View all]

TED MANN and HEATHER HADDON

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey subpoenaed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey this week, seeking records related to the private business interests of the agency's chairman, David Samson.

A person familiar with the matter said the subpoena seeks records concerning Samson and two of the largest projects currently under way at the authority: the replacement of the Goethals Bridge, and the raising of the roadway of the Bayonne Bridge.

Mr. Samson, a former attorney general of New Jersey and an appointee of Gov. Chris Christie, has been under scrutiny in the months since the governor's associates triggered a scandal at the authority by closing lanes—apparently for political ends—leading to the George Washington Bridge.

Lawmakers and federal prosecutors have raised questions about the intersection between Mr. Samson's public duties as chairman of the authority and his private business, as a partner in the law firm Wolff & Samson.
