My grandmother's friend (also my cousin's grandfather) had a still during the depression. Once a month, a Cadillac would pull up in front of the house. "Grandpa" would get in and come back several hours later with a wad of cash.

--- now, fast forward to the 1950's. Bootlegging is over but now Grandma runs the still. She would make bottles of Christmas sprit for her friends. Anisette was one. Another one was yellow and sweet. I liked both of them So I was given a pint of each, every Christmas.

I WAS 10 YEARS OLD when this started and continued until she died.
