CAMDEN – A man left paralyzed after an arrest here wants a judge to rule Camden County police officers deliberately destroyed potential evidence in his case.

But Ingram’s lawsuit contends Camden County Police Department Officer Jeremy Merck stepped on his neck after he fell, causing injuries that left him a quadriplegic. It alleges two other officers — Nicholas Marchiafava and Antonio Genetta. — assaulted and mishandled him, worsening his condition.

Among other claims, Ingram’s excessive force suit says he was wrongly arrested for possessing a stolen gun and four wax paper folds of heroin.

“This evidence was critical to (Ingram’s) ability to prove that (police) lacked probable cause and that this was a false arrest,” the motion says. “It was also obviously critical to exonerating him of the criminal charges.”
