Governor Walz issues writs of special election ahead of House vacancies [View all]

ST. PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued two writs of special election Monday afternoon, looking to fill two vacancies that will open in the State House of Representatives on Tuesday. Both vacancies will be in districts currently held by a DFLer.

Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger will be one of two senators-elect to be sworn into the state senate on Tuesday. The other will be Michael Holmstrom Jr.

Both senators-elect won their respective special elections earlier this month, but Hemmingsen-Jaeger will have to vacate her seat in the house in order to join the senate.

The other vacancy comes from Rep. Kaohly Her, who recently won the race for Mayor of St. Paul. Her submitted a letter of resignation on Friday, set to take effect Monday at midnight.
