Got my first deer of the year and never fired a shot. [View all]

Fresh road kill, less than a mile from my house on my street. Still warm and not mangled.
Last year I got two on the same stretch of road.
I go to deer camp every year but rarely shoot one. I only take sure shots. I don’t care about how many points. I only hunt for the meat. Last year I got 2 small year and a half bucks. This year it has been a fat, very fat 2 1/2 year old doe.
Last year I called the DNR for a salvage tag and they thanked me for picking them up and using the meat.
This year I’m getting them processed and not doing it myself. It’s a lot of work and I’m getting older. Steaks off the top and the rest burger. That’s about the only red meat I eat. So it’ll cost me $100 for about 30-40 pounds of meat. Venison bought at a store runs $17/pond and up. If you can find it.
I don’t hunt or fish for sport, only for food.
