10. I am wary of stories like this from the Guardian

so I check NPR (cited in their report) and by glob this really happened. EXCEPT that the guy was *not* in the midst of surgery. Nurses noticed he wasn't dead while they were filling out paperwork. The original surgeon walked out, refusing "to have anything to do with this," and people quit their jobs in protest over how this terrible mistake occurred.

But no, the guy didn't suddenly sit up with his kidney halfway out and his earlobes harvested for pierced-ear tragedies.
