5. I get the sense that Adkins and Jones are waiting to see what happens this November

If Beshear beats Bevin. I think both Jones and Adkins will be making a run at the Senate and probably Adam Edelen too. Which would be good thing a lot better than just having coronation for a candidate that lost an election for the 2nd most liberal congressional district in the State in 2018.
