Florida's 'Alligator Alcatraz' is just performative cruelty and Trump loyalty [View all]

Good luck finding some ‘merica-lovin’ MAGA guys willing to get off their recliners to do hard labor outside in the steamy Florida swamps, filling in for the hard-working young immigrants.

The idea of building a thousand-bed immigrant detention center in Florida’s Big Cypress National Preserve is an historical perversity.

In case you missed it, Florida’s recently appointed Attorney Gen. James Uthmeier announced that he wants to build the state’s biggest lockup for “criminal aliens” on a remote swath of swampland adjacent to the Florida Everglades.

Uthmeier says he envisions it as “Alligator Alcatraz” — Florida’s version of an inescapable prison.

“We don’t need to invest that much in the perimeter,” he said. “People get out, and there’s not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons.”

This is your basic moron chumming through performative cruelty, Florida's go-to posturing these days.
