USF, UF campus police to partner with ICE on immigration enforcement [View all]

Campus police at the universities of Florida and South Florida are among those that have signed on as law enforcement partners with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

UF spokesperson Steve Orlando confirmed that the school’s police department, like hundreds of other agencies, has signed a 287(g) agreement which allows local law enforcement to partner with ICE to be trained for immigration enforcement.

NBC Miami reported Florida Atlantic University had also signed the agreement, and the University of South Florida’s student newspaper, The Oracle, reported that USF planned to sign the agreement.

The Oracle reported that all law enforcement agencies, including university police departments, would be expected to participate in the 287(g) program under the direction of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Reached by the Tampa Bay Times, spokespeople for USF did not immediately comment on the decision.
