How Anna Paulina Luna's spent her first term in Congress [View all]

When President Joe Biden visited St. Pete Beach earlier this month to survey damage from Hurricane Milton, he had an unlikely companion.

Republican U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna walked beside the leader of the free world through the devastation. After, she publicly thanked Biden for the federal government’s help removing storm debris.

“I have been critical of @POTUS Biden, however, he did follow through on his word when we talked and it’s helping not just Pinellas but FL as a whole,” Luna posted on X. “I appreciate that he chose to not make this political.”

It was the kind of bipartisan show of solidarity that is common in the aftermath of disasters, but increasingly rare otherwise — particularly for Luna.

Since January 2023, Luna has tried to have the U.S. attorney general arrested by the U.S. House sergeant-at-arms; led the charge to censure and expel a House Democrat; accompanied Donald Trump to his criminal trial in New York and nominated the former president for the Congressional Gold Medal.
