18. My job in the AF didn't involve much traveling except between assignments

There were times when I'd go TDY (temporary duty assignment) but for most of my career TDYs were few and far between. It wasn't until I was an E-8 that I started getting TDYs. in about a six month period I went TDY for 35 days to the Senior NCO Academy, one week to Vandenberg AFB for an acting First Sergeant mini-course, and a 30 days to help write the subject matter test for our career field. I turned down a one week TDY to Wright-Patterson AFB when I was asked to join the base volleyball team, at age 50, to represent our base in an AF-wide volleyball tournament. I'd been gone enough over the past year and I had just finished a TDY a few weeks earlier.

I didn't mind traveling cross-country for the TDYs.
