3. The only American beers I've had that were really good

are two from a small brewery east of Portland, Ore. -- Full Sail Amber Ale and Full Sail Wassail Ale. And they're really good!

Of course, people's tastes in beer vary widely. For example, I'd use Guiness, or most any other British beer, to clean a carburetor. I like crisp, fruity ales, even though I drink maybe twice a year now.
