When Corporate Media Sold Us Out [View all]

The signs were there as early as 2016. In February of that year, then CBS executive chairman and CEO Les Moonves took to the stage at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in San Francisco and said this about Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy:

“It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS.”

He added, “Man, who would have expected the ride we’re all having right now? … The money’s rolling in and this is fun.”

Moonves was relishing the chaos Trump was bringing to the 2016 presidential election cycle and its benefit to CBS’ bottom line. “I’ve never seen anything like this, and this going to be a very good year for us,” he bragged. “Sorry. It’s a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on, Donald. Keep going.”
