1. Back in March Schumer had much more to fight over,

Last March Schumer could have asked for protections for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and subsidies for Obamacare to avert a shutdown. Now his mountain to die on is only keeping subsidies for Obamacare. The Big Ugly Death Bill is now law, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are now being gutted, are now the law of the land. It's a lot harder to undo a law, better to stop the law from being enacted in the first place.

There will be more blowback from a shutdown now than there would have been back in March.

Hey, it's worth shutting down to protect Obamacare subsidies, but Chuck blew it back in March. The laid off federal workers are going to raise hell. The rest of the gutting of our social safety net won't kick in until after the election, but kick in it will.
