They still haven't gotten over the abolition of slavery, and how it led to black people being officially recognized as human beings. Even those who were too poor to enslave their fellow human beings grooved on the institution, because it meant that their lazy white Snuffy Smith asses would never be the lowest on the socio-economic ladder. So: change in society; change in a corporate logo. They both still represent change the rednecks are incapable of adjusting to.
