A single [Bitcoin] transaction can use more electricity than the average U.S. household consumes in about 38 days. (So just one single freaking transaction "can" use more than the amount of electricity that an average household uses in a month and then some).

Bitcoin mining uses as much electricity as entire nations such as Argentina, Finland, The Netherlands, and Thailand.
