Needed to rent a car whilst ours in for several days of work. Used to be, there were a couple of PRINTED forms to fill out, and one was good to go.
This is NO LONGER true.
In this case it was the specific car dealership, and not any more widespread outage. Had it been more widespread, would have had to giveup and ride-hail home.
When I figured out this was the case, chatting with the (not at all busy, having nothing to do) checkout clerk (and showing her the screenshots which showed this to be a Very Localized issue) she finally said, well, we had a power outage last night, and that some computer equipment *might* have been damaged,; but, that 'the Tech guys were all over it...'
I did not point out that, if their 'Tech guys' had been any good at all, then there would not have been any problems as the system would have been (like all of mine at home) on UPSs which will run for 20minutes to two hours, and then (on my main system) do an orderly shutdown.
Took them about 1+15 to get their system up and running. This put them behind for the rest of the daysince they needed internet to access the national system where the dealership records are stored before being able to work on any cars .
So, although had brought the car in just as the dealership opened at 0700, they did not get started on our car until about 1300. Which, in the end, may result in my needed to rent-a-car for a day longer than the two-three days planned for.
All good though, simply more money in the bank for the dealership. The house always wins.
