Harry Reid had a bad fall that prompted his exit. Trent Lott publicly praised a segregationist. It takes a lot to get people who crave power (i.e. pretty much every politician ever) to give it up when they've reached the pinnacle.

I hope Schumer goes out with dignity, and bruising campaigns don't always bring out the best in people.
