Seriously, student loans are a terrible clusterfuck. I paid for nearly 25 years, still owed almost half the debt at 70 years old, when I received full community service forgiveness for the remaing debt. The Biden admin even sent me more than $16,000 to refund overpayment. They sent me a letter thanking me for my public service that states "your loan is now paid in full."

Then last year the DOE somehow "found" additional loans that had simply been sitting somewhere for almost 30 years accruing interest-- they were supposed to be consolidated after I graduated in 1994-- and now I'm struggling to prevent them from offsetting my Social Security. The rat bastards won't answer any of my questions. They've never answered a single query (like, where did these loans come from and why weren't they included in consolidation?). They just demand absolutely unreasonable payments and threaten my SS because we can't afford them.

I thought this nightmare was over when my loans were forgiven. Now I don't think it will ever end.
