As an amateur classical musician, though, I finally had to buy one. I really couldn't afford an expensive tux. So, I went to a formal wear rental place and asked if they sold Tuxes that had been rented. They did.

So, for $100, I got the tux, a fancy shirt, all the hardware, and even a pair of patent leather shoes. Same stuff you'd rent. They even did a fitting and some tailoring. That tux got worn just about every time I played at a concert or fancy wedding reception. It went to the cleaners once in a while, too. A good investment.
