1. People are going to be very miserable by the next election, so incumbents (figurative and literal)

will be in peril. The economy is going to be everything, and the outlook is bad bad bad. But her district is so R-safe the race comes down to the primary.

By parting ways with Trump/MAGA on the grounds that they have failed/lost their way she can claim to be the true representative of those positions/values. So voters don't have to admit their ideas were wrong, they just got failed by a fickle/misguided person in the president.

I don't know if it is gonna work, but Trump's coattails have always been smaller than he thinks. It may depend on whether the alternative candidate(s) start with any name recognition or not.
