She was excited to make the change. We set the date before we called and told our friends and family, largely because we didnt want it to be subject to debate. We were old—39 and 40–and we were going to do it all the way we wanted. Anyway, while we were sitting on the couch with the calendar and notebook, she kept signing her new name over-and-over.

I was sort of half-way joking that I wouldnt have married her had she insisted keeping her maiden name. Had it really been that important to her, I would have probably relented. But, I would have been a little disappointed, to be honest.
This was a subject that we were always on the same page.
