Summarizing some other comments for visibility (and adding my own detail):

Zac is Jewish. His great (?) grandparents fled to the UK during the Holocaust. He is the product of immigrants. He is American by passport (was born in the US), but he has lived most of his life in the UK. The only thing that separates him from the car wash employees is privilege, like that of being born in the right place at the right time.
