(8,289 posts)It should be 18 in every state. A number of states have raised the age of consent in the relatively recent past. But for now:
States where the age of consent is 16 (30): Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia.
States where the age of consent is 17 (7): Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Texas, and Wyoming.
States where the age of consent is 18 (13): Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Note: in some states, a person can still be charged with a crime for having sex with a person even after they reach the age of consent, if certain criteria are met. For example: Even though a person may legally consent to sexual activity with someone of any age older than him/her once he/she turns 16, Pennsylvania state prosecutors may still charge a person 18 or older with corruption of a minor if a person has consensual sexual intercourse with a 16 or 17 year old
