Thoughts after a few day of reflection
Yes I am pissed. Very disappointed. And these are understatements.
I wanted the Dems to hold out for the one year extension of the ACA subsidies.
I think that was a mistake by the republicans not to accept that, and a very smart move by Schumer.
But the shutdown has had no effect on me personally.
Im not working without pay. I do not rely on SNAP. I am not furloughed. Etc.
In other words there is no cost to me personally.
So maybe those of us without direct skin in a shutdown should have a little humility.
The Dems who voter to pass the bill, I think, thought TACO was not going to sign a bill with an extension at this time. But remember we can do this again in 3 months. And with TACO deteriorating by the day if not hour he may be drooling in his soup by the end of January. It will be harder for even his most committed cult followers and grifters to keep supporting him.
I have been saying for a while, that we need to turn at least some MAGAs against TACO.
This shutdown, with some experienced fear of losing their SNAP. Some worried about thanksgiving travel plan. Some losing access to services that they rely upon. They have seen TACO go to court repeatedly trying to keep people from getting food aid. Masked unidentified goons kidnapping people. People see killing, without evidence of crimes by our military. They have seen no kings protests in towns near them. And they are seeing the prices of their groceries increase and not being much lower as TACO claims. And the files! Drip, drip drip
. Yes, they have not seen nearly the amount of these things as we who are not tethered to RW media. But over time these things seep into their consciousness.
Each of these has a small effect. But like chipping away at a dam a little at a time. At some point, sometimes, the dam gives way. But these things take time to have those seeds of doubts sprout and take root and grow. This takes time for people to accept that they were coned. But it will happen for some. Just think if 5% or even 10% of maga voters stay home. Or even if 3% switch and vote for democrats. 10 % is 7.7 million. And 3% switching is a gain of 6% or 4.6 million. More than enough to swing the midterms and the next presidential election. I am still pissed, but I do feel hope.
