They laid off a bunch of NOAA workers -- young science-types with families -- and may now be moving the Coast Guard to another town. These are our best-educated young professional folks. If they destroy the fish processing industry, it will sink the rest of the fishing industry.

What really scares me is the empowerment of the neo-nazi types. There has always been a strong neonazi faction presence in Oregon living out in the woods. Periodically, they parade through town in trucks emblazoned in huge flags. It had receded quite a bit until yesterday. Recall the Ammon Bundy group taking over Malheur a few years ago.

We only have about 10,000 people, with a lot of retirees. They could easily take over this town given well-paid ICE jobs, vehicles and weapons, while the rest of the population collapses financially.
