12. And no impeached president has ever been convicted and removed from office.

Before the second Trump impeachment, no senators had ever voted to convict a president of their own party.

(Many Republicans *might* have voted to convict Nixon on impeachment charges,
but the process didn't get very far before Nixon resigned, and that was a different time,
when more Republicans *might* have put 'country before party',
and most would not have voted for an indicted or convicted felon....
let alone nominated one for president)


We did improve on that record, as six Republican senators voted to convict Trump
on impeachment number two, after he was actually out of office anyway...
but getting 67 votes to convict seems an impossibility for the forseeable future
