Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Trump Stealing a Club World Cup Player's Medal

Did a video show U.S. President Donald Trump stealing the winner's medal of a player after the football Club World Cup Final in July 2025? No, that's not true: The medal in Trump's hands was earlier given to him by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. A widely-shared clip was edited to cut out the moment when the president received the medal from Infantino.

The claim appeared in a July 16, 2025, post on X (archived here), whose caption read:

The footage is not AI-generated or digitally manipulated, but it has been edited to cut out an earlier moment in which Trump was given the medal by Infantino. As such, he demonstrably did not "steal" it, and the claim was false.

After the Club World Cup final on July 13, Trump took part in the medal ceremony (archived here), handing the players and coaches of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain their winners and runners-up medals, respectively. After the final medal had been presented, Infantino then presented one to Trump, and the two men shook hands. That moment was captured by broadcaster DAZN, and can be seen below:
