Credit scores ~~factor into~~, which are the only indicator of 'success' accepted by our society, completely affect a person's ability to ~~rent or buy a home, secure a car loan, and other major financial decisions~~ survive, and that can determine one's socioeconomic footing (which is another way to say whether or not society sees you as 'worth a shit'.)

There, that is more accurate.
