5. copy-cat conservatism won't win

Trying to emulate the techniques used by the right wing nut jobs won't bring any new voters. "Less of more of the same" is a bad idea. The RWNJs who want what the republicans are peddling don't want some half-baked, watered down version of it, and never will.
It seems to me that the job required to win elections going forward is to provide an alternate vision that actually works for our society, not some cosplay version of what the crazies are doing.
