SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) Utah State University became the first school in the state to announce its plans to cut more than two dozen academic programs under legislative-mandated budgets for public higher education institutions.

It comes after a new state law, HB 265, or Higher Education Strategic Reinvestment, required schools to make deep cuts. Nearly $60 million in funding was slashed from all degree-earning institutions.

Its just a nervous, like feeling of impending doom, almost you dont know what is going to happen in the future, Jacob Neely, a student at the University of Utah, said.

"I am worried about my friends. I am a biology [major] but I have a lot of friends who are atmospheric science majors, which are not very common," she said.
