Trump gives stunning response to Marjorie Taylor Greene's surprise resignation - Brian Tyler Cohen

BTC: After Marjorie Taylor Green's surprise announcement today that she would be resigning from Congress effective January 5th, 2026, Trump weighed in on the unexpected move. Now, I'm going to get to Trump's response in just a quick moment. But first, here's a small bit of Green's resignation video if you haven't yet seen it.

MTG: Loyalty should be a two-way street, and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district's interest because our job title is literally representative. America first should mean America first and only Americans first with no other foreign country ever being attached to America first in our halls of government.

Standing up for American women who were raped at 14 years old, trafficked and used by rich powerful men should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the president of the United States whom I fought for. I have too much self-respect and dignity. I love my family way too much. And I do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president that we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms and in turn be expected to defend the president against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me. It's all so absurd and completely unserious. I refuse to be a battered wife, hoping it all goes away and gets better. If I am cast aside by the president and the MAGA political machine and replaced by neocon's big pharma, big tech, military, industrial war complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class that can never ever relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well.

There is no plan to save the world or a 4D chess game being played. When common American people realize and understand that the political industrial complex of both parties is ripping this country apart, that not one elected leader like me is able to stop Washington's machine from gradually destroying our country, and instead the reality is that they common Americans, the people possess the real power over Washington, then I'll be here by their side to rebuild it. Until then, I'm going back to the people that I love to the to live my life to the fullest as I always have. And I look forward to a new path ahead. I'll be resigning from office with my last day being January 5th, 2026. and I look forward to seeing many of you again sometime in the future. May God bless you all and may God bless America.

BTC: Now, Trump was asked by ABC's Rachel Scott for his response to the news, to which he said, quote, "I think it's great news for the country. It's great." Scott then asked if she gave him any heads up, to which Trump replied, "Nah, it doesn't matter, you know, but I think it's great. I think she should be happy." Scott continued asking about the riff between the two of them. to which Trump replied, "Only between me and her, not her and me." He said, "As of now, he has no plans to speak to her and wishes her well."

Now, first of all, if anybody can tell me what Donald Trump meant by the riff being only between me and her,
not her and me, I'd love to know because I'd probably consider myself an expert on words and sentences. That would make zero sense.

But more importantly, talk about an ingrate. Look, I'm not here to pretend like Margie Taylor Greene is some
inspired political figure just because for two whole weeks she managed to call Donald Trump out for protecting pedophiles and acknowledging objective reality that the GOP has no plan to make this country more affordable. Otherwise, this woman is a January 6th sympathizer, an election denier, a bigot. The list goes on and on and on. I refuse to allow my bar to be that low that that is all it takes to win me over. Also, I'd be willing to bet that she's just doing all of this because she's running for either the US Senate in 2026 or president in 2028. Call me jaded, but I refuse to believe that she just did a full 180 simply because she suddenly discovered some deep sense of morality or responsibility.

But with all of that said, she was a loyal foot soldier for Trump. In fact, she was the most loyal foot soldier for Trump. So for him to turn around and be so ungrateful really is a testament to just how transactional he is and always has been. And so the moment you lose your usefulness, Donald Trump will cast you aside. He did it
with Ronna McDaniel, the former head of the RNC, who he used to scapegoat Republican election losses. He did it to Michael Cohen, his longtime lawyer and fixer. Did it to Gordon Sondland, his longtime donor and EU ambassador. He did it to his former Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who he called dumb as a rock, and his other secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, who had his security clearance revoked. Did it to his former press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, who he trashed online. His former donor and campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos,
who he denied really even knowing. To his FBI director, Christopher Wray, who he chose to run the agency in his first term, but then forced out to make way for Cash Patel, his own vice president who he was perfectly fine seeing hanged after Pence refused to allow him to certify an election that Trump lost, to Elon Musk, the guy who literally funded his 2024 campaign. And frankly, the only thing more embarrassing than all of those people being discarded by Trump is that anyone would still stick by this guy, thinking that somehow it will never happen to them. That somehow they're special and Trump would never abandon them like he's done literally everyone
else--somehow they're different.

And of course, the broader point is that if Donald Trump has so little loyalty that he can discard all of those people,
people who literally worked for him, who helped him win the election, who sacrificed their lives and reputations
and law licenses and sometimes their livelihoods for him, people who had genuine value to him. If he can discard
all of those people, then do you really believe that he cares about regular Americans? About a single mom working
two jobs to take care of her kids? About a child with cancer who relies on the children's health insurance program to survive? About seniors who need Medicaid for their health care? About a family of four in rural Iowa that relies on food stamps to eat? If Trump will publicly destroy Marjorie Taylor Greene, his most loyal, vocal supporter, then he is not falling over himself to help anyone who isn't named Donald Trump. Trump may frame himself as a populist champion, but he is a champion for one person and one person alone. and it's the guy he sees when he looks in the mirror.

Jasmine Crockett brought that point up as well, writing, "I'm going to be honest. I didn't see this coming, but
the threats that come with being on the opposite side of Trump are real. People need to wake up. Trump only knows how to use people up and then cast them aside when he's done. He did it to his VP. He's done it to those that wanted the Epstein files. He did it to those that believed he cared about their struggles. And now he's doing it to one of his most loyal followers, Marjorie Taylor Greene. Going forward, no one, elected or otherwise, should allow any person to coax them into creating a culture of violence. Marjorie Taylor Greene referenced not wanting to be a battered woman. I'll say this, my granny used to say, "Don't play with fire because you just might get burned." I'm still waiting for Republicans to stand firmly against the president's death wishes on sitting members of the House and Senate. My final word on this is that my office reached out to Marjorie Taylor Greene to work on some member safety legislation. I'm serious about working collaboratively on this effort. if there is an interest, we can get it drafted before January.

But the reality is that of course Donald Trump sicked his mob on Greene because political violence is the only tool that he has at his disposal. And when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. He relies on fear and intimidation to get what he wants. That's why he sends the US military into cities. That's why he's deployed ICE, this rogue agency all over the country. That's why he's pardoned the January 6th insurrectionists. Why he refused to condemn the Proud Boys during a 2020 debate. It's because he doesn't oppose them. He supports them. He wants his supporters to know that if you are willing to fight for him figuratively, but also and especially literally, then he will protect you. And if he needs to sick that same mob on his closest allies to teach them the lesson that he expects 100% loyalty and nothing less, then clearly that's what he's perfectly willing to do. And Margie Taylor Greene learns exactly the character of the man who she's helped empower for the last 5 years.

Now, one silver lining of all of this though is that it does seem that the MAGA coalition is coming apart at the seams. After the election results a few weeks back, after Trump's cratering poll numbers, after watching both the
House and the Senate defect and vote for the release of the Epstein files, one thing that's clear is that Republicans
do not know how to govern, and they are falling apart as the result of that. They only know how to be a minority
party, whining and complaining from the sidelines. But right as we're learning right now, putting the arsonist in
charge of fighting fires only results in even more fires than ever before. And the American people and even a few
people within the GOP conference are getting really sick and tired of dealing with it.

"Only between me and her, not her and me." means "its all her fault, "

the "battered wife" language of green's speech applies to the entire maga mob.
