For Labor Day: The Autobiography of Mother Jones by Mary Harris Jones - Audiobook

(REPOST FROM 9/2/24)

The Autobiography of Mother Jones by Mary Harris Jones - Audiobook

Mother Jones (Mary Harris Jones) was a legendary labor organizer. She was a founding member of the International Workers of the World (the IWW, or the Wobblies), and was active in the United Mine Workers and the Socialist Party of America. (Summary by Denny)

This is the full audiobook and is a newer YouTube version than what I have posted in the past in that it also includes the closed-caption option for those on DU who are hearing-impaired.

I have posted some version of this every Labor Day for a bunch of years since I stumbled upon this and took a couple days to listen to the story of this remarkable woman. She had a strong presence here in Philly (in what is now the Kensington neighborhood of the city) where she lead what has been dubbed the "March of the Mill Children", right to Teddy Roosevelt's summer home in NY.

She later "rode shotgun" to organize and protest for the rights of miners in WV and CO.

A salute to all workers and especially members of the labor unions who fight every day for the rights of workers to have a fair wage and decent working conditions in a safe workplace.
