news here in Manhattan where New York
City mayoral candidate and the city's
controller Brad Lander was just detained
at immigration court Brad Lander's wife
Meg posted this video to his account
showing him being handcuffed in a
federal building My god things are
getting out of control or comp troll in
this case To give you some context Brad
Lander was observing proceedings at New
York's immigration courthouse where an
increasing number of migrants have been
arrested in recent weeks by ICE agents
Since Trump took office these
proceedings are the hottest ticket in
New York since Hamilton a show that ICE
um definitely would have raided on
opening night if Donald Trump had his
way But as in previous instances with
immigrants this immigrants case was
actually dismissed by the federal
government but for a pretty nefarious
purpose This is actually the third week
in a row where I've gone down to
immigration court hearings with a group
called Immigrant Ark to observe the
proceedings and then accompany people as
they try to leave the building Starting
about 3 weeks ago they started stripping
people of their status It's a new thing
that the Department of Homeland Security
is doing uh to what they call dismiss
people's cases but what that really does
is dismiss their asylum applications
renders them with no status and makes
them subject to expedited removal So
this immigrant's case was dismissed by a
judge He then headed toward the
courtroom doors where on the other side
he was met with the shittiest surprise
party ever Because now that his case was
dismissed ICE agents can arrest him on
an administrative immigration crime And
Brad Lander knew this was coming So to
take a stand for our rule of law and
human rights Lander chose to lock arms
with him And then this happened

I'm not obstructing I'm standing right
here in the hallway It is chilling to
watch this happen But thank God we're
actually able to watch this happen
because it's only thanks to Brad
Lander's profile and the people with
cell phones around him that the world is
able to witness what these arrests are
actually like And forget simply
understanding the law Brad was able to
understand the language being spoken to
him Unlike many of the immigrants they
arrest he has been stripped of his due
process rights by a government and a
judge that owe him a credible fear
hearing before they deport him and yet
have decided instead to strip folks like
Edgardo uh and the prior gentleman that
I walked out with whose native language
is Euroba and who only got a translator
in French And so when the judge said "Do
you understand what it means that after
I dismiss your case you'll have no
status?" He said "No status." As he
recognized what was about to happen When
the translator can't translate a judge's
words into the language someone actually
understands I think it's a sign America
needs to tap the brakes I mean frankly I
don't know how to cook whatever a
Biblioteka is but thankfully I don't
need to leave the country over it Sadly
these types of tactics don't seem to be
slowing down at all If anything they're
ramping up Just last week the world
watched as this happened to a sitting
United States senator I'm Senator Alex
Padilla I have questions for the
secretary Hands behind your back Lay on
my hands Go ahead Behind my back All

hand sir Other hand
And one month ago the mayor of Newark
was arrested in similar fashion The
mayor of Newark New Jersey was arrested
at an immigration and customs
enforcement facility Friday during a
visit with members of New Jerseys
congressional delegation Mayor Rosaraka
who's also running for governor of New
Jersey was detained while visiting the
facility which started housing detained
migrants this month This is the most
disturbing stuff I've seen all year And
that includes all of the handiwork from
this season of White Lotus Elected
officials seeking to give a voice to the
voiceless are being tackled handcuffed
and arrested And it is all in an effort
to intimidate other Americans from doing
the same But where most of us see an
attempt to protect our Constitution some
others see it quite differently These
guys want their 15 minutes of fame and
they want to do it off the backs of our
ICE law enforcement officers and we
won't stand for it in this
administration Our law enforcement
officers their safety comes first and so
does the American citizens as well 15
minutes of fame It's 2025 Trust me there
are much easier ways to get famous in
2025 than being handcuffed outside a
federal courtroom and getting shoved
into an elevator by mass ICE agents Just
ask Coctua After Bradlander's arrest
today New York Governor Kathy Hokll was
asked what she thought about the entire
ordeal and she answered it in the only
way a New Yorker knows how Do you want
to know what I really think Please it's
The reality is that it is
and deserves to be called as
such Donald Trump's administration is
adopting authoritarian tactics
exercising them in a manner and
then going on TV with a bunch of
excuses to justify everything
they're doing Sorry for all the cursing
Just figured she did it so why can't I
When we find a bad guy the criminal
threat the public safety threat many
times are with others Others they may
not be a criminal threat but in the
country legally we're not telling ICE to
walk away from them ICE is going to
uphold they took They're going to arrest
the noncriminals So sanctuary city is
going what's the result more agents in
your neighborhoods more collateral
arrests more noncriminal arrests because
you forced us in that position Jesus
Speaking of understanding what people
are saying borders are Tom Hman is
speaking English And I can't understand
anything that he is saying Maybe it'd be
easier if he took Trump's balls out of
his mouth But amid such a glaring lack
of humanity as families are being ripped
apart as people are afraid to go in
public for fear of being shipped off to
a country they've never known at least
someone is focused on the real victims
here You know Tom I do want to ask about
the morale of ICE agents You know I've
given a lot of thought to the doxing
that's gone on the pictures that were
put up in LA of some of these ICE agents
with the contact information for them
And I just think you know I have kids
too I have a third on the way I can't
imagine if my dad's face was on a poster
and he was called all sorts of things
I'm not sure if you're familiar with
this Kaye but some of those people ISIS
is arresting for the heinous crime of
coming into this country years ago and
paying into our tax system and keeping
our economy afloat those people also
have kids and they also have been called
all sorts of names and not just by the
president of the United States but by an
entire news organization that you are on
Have you considered the morale of those
people For some reason I doubt it After
the events of today I really want to
make an appeal to Republicans here You
have a crucial decision to make on what
kind of country you want to live in
moving forward Yes you currently control
both houses of Congress and the
executive branch but if we can agree for
a moment that these hats are just pieces
of merch made in jest and China then we
know your government trifecta is not
going to last forever At some point
Democrats will wield power ideally
before JD offs another pope And do you
really want to live in a country where
simply for asking a question or engaging
in a peaceful protest the Department of
Homeland Security is given cart blanch
to tackle and handcuff a Republican
senator
Okay bad example but you get my point
Personally I don't want to live in a
nation where Democrats allow or even at
times champion those types of harsh
tactics But by standing by rather than
speaking up Republicans the party in
power are ushering in that type of
America The kind of America where United
States citizens get thrown into vans and
elevators and airplanes without being
told where they're being taken That type
of ironclad secrecy is exciting when the
end result is SeaWorld Less so when it's
se We are witnessing the slow
radicalization to a new normal that
everyone should be uncomfortable with
regardless of party And to be honest
it's not even that slow This
administration hasn't even been in
office for 6 months I suppose that's the
plus side of a dictatorship You can move
quite quickly when laws don't stand in
your way So Republicans please stop
turning a blind eye to these injustices
simply because those being tackled and
handcuffed are affiliated with a
different political party You know what
