"I Have A Cheese And Pickle Sandwich, With A Margarita" - How Paul McCartney Unwinds On His Tour Bus

After "The Late Show" Series Finale, Will All Of Late Night Television Be Destroyed?

Stephen Colbert's interview with Paul McCartney is interrupted when an interdimensional wormhole opens up at the Ed Sullivan Theater. Does this spell the end of late night television as we know it?

"Jump Up / Hello Goodbye" Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Jon Batiste, Louis Cato & Stephen Colbert

"The Late Show" signs off with two powerful musical performances back-to-back, beginning with the quartet of Stephen Colbert, Louis Cato, Jon Batiste and Elvis Costello performing Costello's 1977 tune, "Jump Up."

As that song ends, the foursome are joined by Paul McCartney and The Great Big Joy Machine for a once-in-a-lifetime rendition of The Beatles' "Hello Goodbye," which ends with a giant singalong featuring the entire staff of "The Late Show."

His humor was exactly what I needed at the end of the day...

p.s. I saw Paul McCartney in concert, too, just a few years ago. It was quite a show, the place was packed (Syracuse University where both of my parents went) and I lost track of how many encores he did!

I had heard rumors that he would be there. The Beatles played their first US concert in that theater!

And I remember seeing them. I was just a kid, was playing in my room. But my mother insisted I come out and watch, she said this was "history!"

My mom did comment that she thought they were cute. Good enough. She also scratched up side 1 of the White album from playing it while we were in school.

After a gap of some time and Ron Raygun's election, he did a strip re-opening the show. Final panel was the White House, with the new President asking "what was that sound?" Reply" "Nothing, Sir, go back to sleep."

Although all-in-all I think that "Closing Time" would have been a more appropriate finale, hey, Macca was there, so "Hello, Goodbye" works. I have a feeling we're going to hear more from Mr Colbert. Having CBS try to silence him may have been one of the biggest mistakes this Administration ever made.
