(36,726 posts)Going out to eat is not an option anymore. Weve started going to our local Senior Center for lunch. Just $3.00 each. Good food and a balanced meal for the cost of a cup of Coffee elsewhere. Wife get coffee, I get hot tea. Even a glass of chocolate Mike included.
Lucky my wife is great at cooking beans and rice. I eat about 4 eggs a day and thats only about a buck.
Anyone else finding ways to save?

(5,131 posts)We never were big on going out to eat anyway, but we did it occasionally just because we were busy. We often had store-bought frozen prepared dinners in the freezer, so we could come home from work, throw something in the microwave and feed the fam.
Now, I cook meals (my wife prefers baking desserts, I cook). I've become pretty good at it. Those store-bought frozen dinners we used to buy? I can put together a better-tasting dinner for at least half the price. Chicken is my favorite go-to meal. A 10lb bag of chicken quarters for around 8 bucks goes a long way.
