The last men of the American Revolution - BBC Global

In 1864, as the new art form of photography was gaining popularity, someone had the forethought to trace the last living Revolutionary soldiers and take their photographs.

The six images now hold great significance to the US and copies are kept in the Library of Congress.

But what is the real story behind each veteran and, despite being aged 100-years-old or more, were they really the last surviving Revolutionaries?

Made with thanks to the Library of Congress and Don N. Hagist, author of 'The Revolution's Last Men: The Soldiers Behind the Photographs'.
