The Madness of King George - The Prince of Wales' ruse



The Prince of Wales arranges a concert to expose King George III's instability. The most prominent effect of King George III's illness was his inability to internalize his thoughts, which is focused on during this scene. I personally enjoy the Soliloquy Nigel Hawthorne speaks when he laments about the loss of the Americas. It truly seems to be something that haunts the King.

This scene from "The Madness of King George" is symbolic in many ways of the trying times in England after their defeat by the colonists. I find an interesting choice of music here in Fenton's adaptation of "Zadok the Priest", written by Handel for the coronation of King George II.
