Good grief. Melissa is atronger than last night. It's now at 893.5 mb this close to land.

182 mph maximum sustained winds. I can't imagine .Unbelievable.

What could stand up to 182 mph? I just can;t even imagine and shudder with sadness for Jamaica and especially Malaise and her family there! Hang on and stay as safe as possible!

and I evacuated every single time, no matter what.

But they were nothing like this, not even as bad as
Katrina.

The worst one I can recall had a central pressure of 888mb and roared ashore as a strong cat four!

the entire island will be incommunicado until after the storm, when satellite links can be re-established. It's gonna be a real Nantucket sleigh ride.

They expect almost total devastation. Winds in the mountains could reach 200+mph.
Malaise and any other DUers......my most positive thoughts are with you. Please stay safe.

And all the people and wildlife in and around Jamaica, too. Be careful, be strong, but above all, be safe.

-BTW, I want to think i heard last year the NWS was saying we were soon going to need a new classification above Cat 5... like a Cat 6 or higher. Anyone else remember it? Sure sounds like that meteorologist was prophetic.
