Mamdani accuses Israel of 'genocide' with US funding during White House meeting with Trump
Trump, a former New York resident, has labeled Mamdani, 34, as a "radical left lunatic," a communist, and a "Jew hater."
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani accused Israel of committing genocide and the United States government of funding it during a White House press conference with US President Donald Trump on Friday.
In response to one reporter who inquired about Mamdanis view on US involvement in the Israel-Hamas War, the incoming mayor stated that he has spoken about the Israeli government committing genocide and our government funding it, continuing that he shared his concerns with Trump during their meeting.
Trump did not respond to the question nor deny the genocide accusation.

(20,898 posts)stance on his plummeting poll numbers. Given that his MAGA movement is beginning to splinter, I think he's simply searching for a message that will resonate, and Jew hate disguised as "anti-Zionism" might be key.
What I find more disturbing is Mamdani's unwillingness to condemn the anti-Semitic protest at a NYC synagogue this week, and the DSA's virulent, doctrinaire, anti-Jewish stance on the very existence of the state of Israel.
Via Google AI:
The DSA's position is rooted in an anti-Zionist, anti-imperialist framework, and it views the Israel-Palestine conflict through the lens of a "settler-colonial, apartheid" dynamic. This perspective has shaped its platform and actions in several key ways:
Full Solidarity: The DSA expresses full solidarity with the Palestinian cause, calling for "the end of Israel's colonization and occupation of all Arab lands" and the "right of all refugees to return".
BDS Movement Endorsement: The organization formally endorsed the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement targeting Israel in 2017 and has a dedicated BDS and Palestine Solidarity Working Group.

Context and Controversies
The DSA's hardline stance on Israel and its characterization of the conflict, particularly following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, have led to internal debates and alienation of some progressive allies. Some former members have left the organization over its refusal to condemn Hamas, while the DSA leadership and a majority of its members view such acts within the context of an oppressed people's resistance to occupation
==========================
Here's what Maurice Isserman, one of the founders of DSA, had to say about his organization's capture by anti-Israel entryists in 2023:
Reason for resignation: Isserman wrote an essay in The Nation explaining his departure, citing the DSA's "politically and morally bankrupt response" to the Hamas attack.
Specific complaints: He criticized the response as a major political blunder and took issue with what he saw as the organization's opposition to elected officials like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who condemned the attack.
He also blamed internal groups he termed "entryists" for the response, suggesting they aimed to break the DSA from the Democratic Party.
