(6,817 posts)Yes, I think the amount of teams was far less back than and they were mostly just white players. So, just like Major League Baseball in the 40s and 50s, I think the level of both leagues is much better now than what it used to be.

By the mid 60s, that was fading fast. The Bears drafted Gayle Sayers in '65. I was about 9 at the time and within a season he was everyone's favorite Bear.

(3,601 posts)The expansion to 32 teams plus free agent compensation picks is a big deal.
The pre merger days ( 1970) had only 16 teams so the beginning of round 4 today after compensation picks would be the equivalent of round 7 in 1969.
Kurt warner as undrafted free agent should be the biggest or latest draft pick. Mainly because it wasn't like he was signed immediately after the draft like a round 8 first pick.
