Portland Trail Blazers land buyer at $4 billion valuation
Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon is leading a group to acquire the Portland Trail Blazers at a valuation just over $4 billion. The deal comes exactly three months after late owner Paul Allens estate, led by Allen's sister Jody Allen, announced it would sell the team.
According to Sportico, which first reported the news, in addition to Dundon, the ownership group includes Blue Owl Capital co-president Marc Zahr and co-CEO of Collective Global Sheel Tyle.
The acquisition must be approved by NBA owners before it is official. In a recent ranking of NBA team valuations, CNBC pegged the Portland Trail Blazers value at $3.6 billion.
The sale is notable for Seattle Seahawks fans because Jody Allen is required by the terms of Paul Allens will to sell both teams. The Trail Blazers deal suggests a Seahawks ownership change may not be far off.
