the price of love

love is difficult to afford only of the heart mind and soul
and even then it keeps increasing until a life quells death
interrupts the eternally lonely sequence of a ceaseless toll
and even time is deeply decreasing counting each breath
to have once held a love in hand to have claimed it mine
looking back at the fool displayed in what type of insanity
rushing heedless never planned smooth the rough to fine
alive in a despair and dismayed aware of a bitter inanity
i have never really paid the price love dangles out of reach
love borrowed love on loan as well as the love taken back
hesitant at the roll of the dice unwilling to fill the breech
playing with a heart of stone crumbling and colored black
with a cost too dear to pay i am unable to bear a chance
a miser with doubt in the way too afraid to take a stance
