a prayer for the dying

a prayer for the dying

there are words but i have forgotten how to use them
strong words with strong meanings expressing all that
which needs to be expressed consoling and condoling
the words which bring love to the heart and the soul
my silence wallows in guilt surrounded by the hurts
which nibble bite and bring on discomfort and misery
abandoning these words seems a proper thing to do
leaving them stripped and broken at the side of life
prayers form in the mind but reach the lips in silence
staring out of unclear eyes with cold trembling fingers
casting the glances left to right to up to down in vain
as tears form and leak around the dams built by time
these unspoken words pile up against the ends of life
moldering and melting losing form shape or meaning
