hesitation

hesitation

when the time of choice arrives hesitation follows
filling up cups of doubt until they are overflowing
in the loud or soft voice in depth and the shallows
deciding if to hide or flout the cards now showing
to drift divide or dither uncountable minutes meet
hear the ticking of a clock and wait for the chime
to brush a ghost and shiver from the burning heat
watch moss split the rock count bits of dust so fine
holding a hand out halfway between a yes or a no
as the eyes continue to blink rapidly in the surprise
stare at a veering pathway wonder what way to go
indecision teeters on a brink between truth and lies
shattered beaten and flayed the skin hangs in folds
scattered reason is displayed as sin spans the souls
