into the fear

turn into the fear in danger away from a safer place
as sanity flees seeks refuge the heart grows shallow
all aimed at the maw stranger than any devil’s face
under the withering deluge both heroic and callow
the heat turned into a fire of embers drifting down
roars shook the stem and stern as engines pounded
shells scream doom of dire whimpers were drowned
in moments the blood did burn a cadence sounded
ravaged torn and left dead on the deck teak littered
powder and smoke coated every eye and each lung
yet an insatiable beast unfed with red eyes glittered
in every flash grown bloated on the little lives hung
then the battle lost in silence the miracle to survive
when the peace is a violence no truth to be derived
