deeper

i’m not sure if a depression can dig any deeper
now the roots are exposed ragged and gnawed
a harder rain’s impression a tree leans steeper
the dankness is imposed upon a life so flawed
i’m not certain if a darkness can grow blacker
eyes strained wide open bereft of the little light
dull blades a lost sharpness impede the hacker
chips fall branches broken in an image of blight
i’m not understanding love as it has abandoned
heaps of dead leaves rotted a wet scent of mold
random spasms prod shove leave hope stranded
delve in the thoughts besotted the times unfold
i’m not certain i can collect these things in order
i’m not sure if i can correct this mess of disorder
