I mean, I probably wouldn't watch it today, but way back then we lived in the sticks, only had one channel, and it was either this or arguments that ended in violence. Believe me, Welk's show was something I looked forward to.

If it was your reality, I feel for you.

Otherwise it sounds like the beginning of a humorous tale.

I think we had 3 channels. Every now and then we'd watch Lawrence Welk for a bit but the cloying schtick got too much. Now Perry Como...

My father was a musician from that era and it was one of the few times he wouldn't be yelling at one of us or finding some work for us to do. I pretended to be interested in the show just to keep him happy.

and IIRC there was some other show on at the same time that we kids wanted to watch, but Grandma had seniority (literally), so we just whined about how the music was dumb and awful until we were told to be nice and let Grandma enjoy her show.

Finally it got replaced by Sha Na Na, and my dad heard how good a tenor the little guy named Johnny was. After that we always watched Sha Na Na.

I laughed out loud at a few of them, but would never be able to pick only one favorite.

Thanks for the thread. I think we all needed to laugh for a change.

I laughed at a bunch of them, but the "told my wife I wanted to be cremated" was my favorite!
