There was some low boggy land behind our family grocery store. All of my brothers and sister had been warned to stay out of that area, because it was known to be treacherous. A couple of kids in the neighborhood by the store were taking a shortcut and one stepped into a pit and got stuck. His friend ran to the store and my Dad, a volunteer fireman, ran down to the marsh and pulled him to safety. My Dad got a citation for his effort.

The store was southeast of Cleveland, not out west
